Terms of Service
These Terms govern your use of Aureader, a service provided by Aura Intelligence SL (NIF B75350439), a company incorporated in Spain ("we", "us", "Aureader"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
1. The Service
Aureader lets you upload books, articles, and other text content to a private library and listen to them as synthesised audio in a choice of voices and reading styles. The Service is offered through the web app at aureader.com and our Android (and, in the future, iOS) applications.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 14 years old to create an account.
- You provide accurate information when signing up and keep your login credentials secure. You are responsible for all activity on your account.
- One account per natural person. Account sharing is not permitted on the free or any paid tier.
- You may delete your account at any time from Account → Danger zone.
3. Your content
You keep all rights to the content you upload. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to host, process, chunk, and convert your content to audio solely so that we can provide the Service to you. We do not use your uploads to train AI models, do not sell or share them, and do not look at them except as needed to run the Service (e.g. debugging a parsing failure you reported).
You confirm that you have the right to upload everything you upload — in particular, that you own the content or hold a valid licence. We will respond to clearly substantiated copyright complaints under Spanish Law 21/2014 by removing infringing material and, in repeat cases, terminating the offending account.
4. Acceptable use
You may not:
- Upload content you do not have the right to use (pirated books, paywalled articles you don't have a subscription to, etc.).
- Use the Service to harass, threaten, defame, or invade the privacy of others.
- Upload content that depicts or sexualises minors, promotes terrorism, or violates Spanish or EU criminal law.
- Attempt to break or bypass quotas, rate limits, payment, or authentication; reverse-engineer our APIs at a volume that affects service stability; or scrape the Service.
- Resell access to the Service, mirror its output, or use it to build a competing product.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.
5. Plans, billing, and subscriptions
- The Free tier includes a monthly minute allowance of synthesised audio. The current allowance is shown in Account → Plan.
- Paid plans are charged in advance through Stripe Payments Europe Ltd. on a monthly basis. Prices include VAT where applicable.
- You may cancel at any time from Account → Manage subscription. The cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you keep paid features until then.
- We reserve the right to change prices with at least 30 days' notice by email; price changes never apply retroactively to a paid period.
6. Right of withdrawal (consumers in the EU)
EU consumer law normally gives you a 14-day right to withdraw from a digital service for any reason. However, under Article 16(m) of EU Directive 2011/83 and Article 103 of Spanish Royal Legislative Decree 1/2007, this right does not apply once you have started using a digital service whose performance has begun with your prior express consent. By starting playback of any synthesised audio in your library, you give that consent and acknowledge that you lose the right of withdrawal for the current billing period.
7. Free tier and quotas
We may adjust free-tier quotas to keep the Service economically viable. We will give at least 14 days' notice before tightening any free-tier quota that affects your existing usage pattern.
8. Service availability
We aim for high availability but do not promise the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may take the Service down for scheduled maintenance and will give notice where the downtime is likely to exceed 30 minutes.
9. Liability
We are liable for direct damages caused by our wilful misconduct or gross negligence to the extent required by Spanish and EU law. Outside that, our aggregate liability for the Service in any 12-month period is limited to the total fees you paid us in that period (which is zero for free-tier users). We are not liable for indirect, consequential, or punitive damages, lost profits, or lost data beyond what your subscription fee covers. These limits do not exclude any liability that cannot be excluded under mandatory Spanish or EU consumer law.
10. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access on reasonable notice, except where you have materially breached these Terms (in which case we may act immediately). On termination, we will delete your account and content according to the Privacy Policy retention schedule.
11. Changes to the Terms
We may update these Terms. Material changes will be announced by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after that date means you accept the new Terms; if you don't, cancel before the effective date and we will refund any unused portion of a paid subscription on a pro-rata basis.
12. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by Spanish law. If you are a consumer residing in the EU, you have the right to bring disputes before the courts of your country of residence, and we will bring any dispute against you before those same courts. The European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform is available for consumer disputes.
For non-consumer users, the courts of Madrid, Spain have exclusive jurisdiction.
